Since its founding in 2017 by brothers Derrick H. Lewis and Desmon Lewis, the Bronx Community Foundation has focused on one core mission: supporting and investing in community power to eradicate inequity and build sustainable futures for Bronxites.
Through strategic partnerships with nonprofits, local leaders, and community organizations, the Foundation has invested millions of dollars into initiatives that address some of the Bronx’s most pressing challenges.

A Community Foundation Focused on Measurable Impact
The Bronx Community Foundation approaches philanthropy differently. Rather than treating giving as charity alone, the Foundation focuses on strategic investment and long-term community capacity building.

Laddering back to our pillar of equity & justice, the Bronx Community Foundation partnered with the Hostos Center for Bronx Nonprofits, DreamYard, WHEDco and other local nonprofits. Our foundation supported vital community-based operations for nonprofits through providing grants and technical assistance.
Food Security Initiatives
$2,500,000+ invested
By working with trusted local partners, The Bronx Community Foundation helps ensure that food resources reach the communities that need them most. Through partnerships with organizations including, but not limited to:

- New York Common Pantry
- Rap4Bronx
- Bronx Private Industry Council
- World Central Kitchen

- numerous local restaurants and community fridges
We made an impact in the Bronx to deliver:
- Over 2.5 million meals
- 1,800+ grocery bags distributed each week
- 29,000+ pounds of fresh produce provided to Bronx families
Equity and Justice Initiatives

The Bronx Community Foundation also invests in initiatives focused on justice, equity, and community empowerment. Our efforts have supported microgrant programs, community justice initiatives, and the development of a participatory defense hub.
